Snow On Your RV -- Fun For A Second, Then Time To Head South

Several times over the past few months, Matt and I have had the joy of experiencing snow in our Airstream (well, not actually inside the RV, but outdoors while traveling in our rig!) Our initial collective reaction when the heavens open up is, "Fabulous!" But then reality sets in. That first snow this year (which was just before Halloween in Boston) knocked out our power for five days -- it was right then and there that we learned all that white beauty isn't necessarily a good thing!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Matt and I are both originally from the south -- snow has always been a rare treat (and that's especially true now that we're full-timing and tend to follow milder weather as we trek around the country). As soon as it starts to fall, we're outside like a couple of kids, building snowmen and having slushball fights, making snow angels and sliding down hills (I recently discovered that my boogie board does great double duty -- perfect for playing in the ocean during warm weather, and equally skilled at imitating a sled in winder months!) We have enough fun during the first 24 hours of a snowfall to last the rest of the winter -- and that's probably a good thing, because after a couple of days, I'm ready for the snow to go away and the world to dry out again! Big smile

I truly don't know how these northerners do it -- living months and months with the ground being covered in precipitation. I have no problem with the snow itself, but I'm not a fan of what it turns into after it's been laying around for a while. The cars and pedestrians beat all that beautiful white fluffiness down into a muddy slush, the snow plows leave dirty gray piles on the side of every road -- and as the temperature rises and falls, the remnants of what was my winter wonderland turn into ice. If snow could stay pristine throughout its entire stay, I might be able to tolerate it for longer. Although I will admit that after two solid months of actual winter, I'm ready to head back south for a little sunshine. Orlando, here we come!
