Living In A Tin Can -- The Full-Time Airstreaming Lifestyle
I know that I've been gone for a while -- my mother passed away on June 6th, and I've been absolutely overwhelmed dealing with everything. I'm just about ready to return to my normal life, and that means that my blogs will be returning too. I look forward to reconnecting with my site visitors -- keep an eye out for me in late September!
You Are Here: Home > Organize And Simplify
Matt and I have been full-time RVers since July of 2008 -- and each day brings a new life lesson (help, I'm growing, and I can't stop!) We are having a wonderful time, and wish that more people would break free from the shackles of stationary life to join us (Kendra and Doug, if you're reading, this means you!) This weekly blog shares our experiences living the nomadic life -- tips about the mechanics and practicalities of full-timing, obstacles we had to overcome to be able to travel year-round, what it's like to work on the road, and our observations about the world as we see it from our Airstream...

Squished Pennies -- The Perfect Full-Timing Souvenir
As full-time RVers, we love to travel -- but we just don't have room for the typical souvenirs most people bring home. God bless pressed pennies -- they serve my need for a tangible representation of my memories, but my entire collection fits into a single ring binder.

Putting Togetherness To The Test -- Working And Living In 200-Square Feet
A lot of people ask, "How can you and your husband live in such a small space without killing each other?" I will tell you that sometimes, it's not easy! But there are a couple of things we've got going for us -- three factors that I see as requirements for being to full-time as a couple...

What Is The Perfect Length Stay?
Matt and I have been full-timing for nearly a year now, and we've tried all different lengths of stay along our route. We've stopped at a new location for as little as a day and as long as 5 months. But for our needs, we've found that 2-3 months is really the perfect length of time to get to know a place...

The Long, Long Trailer -- Things Haven't Changed That Much
When Matt and I decided to hit the road, a friend of ours bought us a copy of "The Long, Long, Trailer" as sort of a joke (and possibly also because we look a bit like Lucy and Desi.) As we near our one-year anniversary as full-timers, I've gone back to watch the film again -- and noticed that things haven't changed that much over the years...

Get Out Of Your RV And Do Some REAL Camping
I know that I tend to be hugely verbose in my blogs -- but this is just a (relatively) short little ditty about the joys of tent camping, even when you full-time in an RV...

Gasoline Vs. Diesel -- An Age-Old Dilemma
When we bought our tow vehicle, Matt and I talked to other full-timers about whether we should go diesel or gasoline. The general consensus was that diesel would get you more power going up a steep incline, but that if you didn't spend a lot of time in the mountains, gas would be fine. However, no one ever discussed the concept of "altitude" with us -- and we learned the difference between the two the hard way as we just drove through the Rockies for the first time this past week...

Overnight Parking At Truck Stops -- The Full-Timer's "Motel 6"
When you're on your way from somewhere to somewhere and just need to stop for the night, RVers definitely have the advantage over car travelers. You have your home with you, you don't have to worry about hotel reservations, you can sleep in your own bed and eat your own food for breakfast. But you can't just pull off the side of the road and you may not be able to find an affordable RV park in the middle of nowhere for just one night. What do you do?

We just spent a couple of days in Las Vegas -- this is the first time that we have parked our Airstream at a casino RV park. Aside from the fact that it's hotter than an oven outside and we have to run our air conditioner 24 hours a day just to keep from melting, I think Vegas is a fantastic place to RV. And I'm definitely on board with this "casino RVing" thing...

Airstream -- The Last Handmade American Product
This week I spent a good deal of time watching a Ren Fest blacksmith at his forge and talking to him about metalworking. The conversation reminded me of our trip last summer to the Airstream factory. We saw travel trailers being put together from the ground up -- and I was amazed to find out that every last component on these things is entirely handmade. It may be the last American product out there that doesn't come off of an assembly line...
