Living In A Tin Can -- The Full-Time Airstreaming Lifestyle
I know that I've been gone for a while -- my mother passed away on June 6th, and I've been absolutely overwhelmed dealing with everything. I'm just about ready to return to my normal life, and that means that my blogs will be returning too. I look forward to reconnecting with my site visitors -- keep an eye out for me in late September!
You Are Here: Home > Organize And Simplify
Matt and I have been full-time RVers since July of 2008 -- and each day brings a new life lesson (help, I'm growing, and I can't stop!) We are having a wonderful time, and wish that more people would break free from the shackles of stationary life to join us (Kendra and Doug, if you're reading, this means you!) This weekly blog shares our experiences living the nomadic life -- tips about the mechanics and practicalities of full-timing, obstacles we had to overcome to be able to travel year-round, what it's like to work on the road, and our observations about the world as we see it from our Airstream...

Who Needs A Car When You Have A Bike (Or A Moped?)
Matt and I just finished up a two-week stay in Key West -- which I have officially dubbed one of the most bike-friendly cities in the U.S. We camped out over on Stock Island, just across the bridge from Key West proper and a short bike ride from all the fun and sun (and drinking establishments.) I loved pedaling my way along the waterfront and into town -- and I wish that more cities were as easy to navigate without driving that big freaking truck we own!

Stella Rocks -- At Least According To The Saturday Evening Post
Matt and I are thrilled to have been selected to represent the full-time RVing contingent in the January 2010 issue of "The Saturday Evening Post" -- they sent a photographer to take pictures of our little Airstream home, and interviewed us about what it's like to live and work on the road in our 30's. I've reprinted the content here, but you can also download a PDF of the full article.

My Full-Timing Resolution For The Next Year
We're coming up on the 1st of January, and that's the time for resolutions. As RVers, Matt and I have already taken a huge step toward creating the life we really want -- but there is always room for improvement. Actually, I really only have one goal for our full-timing lifestyle next year...

Celebrating Christmas On The Road
Lately, I've had a number of folks ask us if celebrating Christmas on the road is lonely -- being away from our loved ones, in some far distant place. But that's actually the opposite of what Matt and I have experienced. The joy of being perpetual travelers is that we can spend our holidays anywhere we want, with anyone we choose, and someplace different each year. And wherever we go, we have our home and our "kids" and our holiday decorations.

Full-Timers -- The Ultimate Mobile Workforce
A friend of mine recently sent me a great article from Wired Magazine called Nomadic Geeks: Take Your Job And Shove It (Into An Airstream) -- all about those of us who have taken our show on the road, and how we manage to live and work while traveling. No surprise to those who know me or read my blogs, but I have a few things to add...

Always The Youngest Couple In The Room (At Least In Florida)
Matt and I both grew up in South Florida -- so we were quite accustomed to being the "youngsters" in a community where the average age was 65. However, when we hit the road RVing, we were assured that the tide had shifted. We expected to find other people like us -- working full-timers under 40. And while I've met these people through the web, I have yet to run across any of them in the RV parks we frequent. We are still the youngest couple in the room!

RV Parks -- Safer Than A Conventional Neighborhood
Today, Matt and I are checking into a new RV park, as we settle in to visit with the family for a month during the holidays. We'll spend many of our days at my in-laws' house, away from our Airstream -- and folks often ask us whether we aren't concerned about leaving our home "unattended" while we're gone. Not a chance! Actually, we feel safer and in less danger of crime in these RV parks than we ever did in a conventional neighborhood.

Things Every RVer Should Be Thankful For
In preparation for Turkey Day, I've been starting each November morning tweeting something for which I'm thankful (not "that I'm thankful for" -- good grammar prevails even during the holidays!) I wasn't sure that I could come up with a new gratitude every single day, but this little exercise has actually been easier than I imagined. And most of my "I'm thankful for" items are related to the fact that we're full-time RVers now.

Tax Breaks For Full-Time RVers
Since the economy tanked last year, there has been a lot of talk about taxes -- to pay for the bailout, for the proposed healthcare bill, for the continued fighting abroad -- but also tax breaks for new homeowners to try and kick the stalled housing market into gear. What I want to know is, where are the tax breaks for full-time RVers???
