Useful Web Research Resources

You Are Here:   Home > Fun Stuff > Web Resources

I know that I've been gone for a while -- my mother passed away on June 6th, and I've been absolutely overwhelmed dealing with everything. I'm just about ready to return to my normal life, and that means that my blogs will be returning too. I look forward to reconnecting with my site visitors -- keep an eye out for me in late September!

I love the internet -- it's so much cleaner and less smelly than the library! Seriously, I turn to the web whenever I need information about anything. Back in the day when you had to rely on the yellow pages and the Encyclopedia Britannica, there was a huge risk of running into outdated facts. But with web access, you have the latest and most current data at your fingertips -- just a mouse-click away.

Yes, I know that you have to take every "fact" with a grain of salt, and there is a lot of misinformation out there. But hey, I'm anal retentive and a Professional Organizer to boot -- I have no problem being thorough about my web research!

So every time I discover a new site that gives you access to some useful collection of data, I'm going to share it here. I'm equal opportunity -- you'll find links to entertainment websites ("What movie did I see that guy in?" or "How did that TV theme song go?") -- reference websites ("If it's $59, how many Euros is that?" and "How many feet are in a mile?") -- and even debunking websites ("Did that Rasta guy really put a tourist's toothbrush up his butt and take a photo?) Hope you find something you can use!

Mythbusters

  • Fact Check

don't trust it just because you heard it on the news -- double check the facts first

  • Snopes

be a responsible web-user -- find out if it's bullshit before you help spread a rumor that isn't really true

Reference Tools

  • Dictionary.com

a virtual dictionary for all occasions -- definitions, synonyms, antonyms, you name it

  • Encyclopedia.com

verified facts, information, and biographies -- compare several different reference guides side-by-side
